How to setup your profile

A complete profile helps build trust with potential renters and improves your chances of getting bookings. This guide will help you set up your vessel owner profile on Here2Fish.

Overview

Your profile is your identity on Here2Fish. It includes:

  • Personal information (name, photo, bio)
  • Contact preferences
  • Location information
  • Public handle (used for referrals and sharing)

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Access Profile Settings

From the app:

  1. Open the Profile tab (bottom navigation)
  2. Tap your profile photo or name at the top
  3. Select “Edit Profile” or “Settings” > “Edit Profile”

2. Profile Photo

Adding a Profile Photo:

  1. Tap the profile photo placeholder or current photo
  2. Choose from:
    • Take Photo: Use your device camera
    • Choose from Library: Select an existing photo
  3. Crop and adjust the photo if needed
  4. Save the changes

Tips for a Good Profile Photo:

  • Use a clear, recent photo of yourself
  • Good lighting and face clearly visible
  • Professional or friendly appearance
  • Square format works best

3. Basic Information

Display Name

  • Required: Your name as you want it displayed
  • This appears in search results and on your vessel listings
  • Can be your real name or a nickname

Email

  • Auto-filled: From your account registration
  • Can be shown publicly or kept private (see Privacy Settings)

Phone Number

  • Optional but Recommended: For direct communication with renters
  • Can be shown publicly or kept private (see Privacy Settings)
  • Useful for coordinating trip details

4. Handle (Your Unique Identifier)

What is a Handle?

  • Your unique @username on Here2Fish
  • Used in your referral code
  • Appears in your public profile URL
  • Helps others find and mention you

Setting Your Handle:

  1. Enter your desired handle (e.g., “captainjohn” becomes “@captainjohn”)
  2. Requirements:
    • Must be unique (not already taken)
    • Can contain letters and numbers
    • No spaces or special characters (except underscores)
    • Minimum 3 characters
  3. Important: Once set, changing your handle affects your referral links

Note: Your handle becomes part of your referral code, so choose something memorable!

5. Bio (About You)

Writing Your Bio:

  • Recommended: Write 2-3 sentences about yourself
  • Include:
    • Your experience with boating/fishing
    • What makes you a great host
    • Your passion for fishing
    • Any certifications or special skills
  • Keep it: Friendly, professional, and authentic

Example Bio:

“Lifelong angler with 20+ years of experience fishing these waters. I love sharing my knowledge and ensuring everyone has a great time on the water. USCG licensed captain.”

6. Location

Setting Your Location:

  1. Enter your city, state, or region
  2. Or use “Use Current Location” to auto-detect
  3. This helps renters find nearby vessel owners

Location Benefits:

  • Appears in local searches
  • Helps match you with nearby fishers
  • Builds local community connections

7. Privacy Settings

Control what information is visible to others:

Show Email Publicly

  • Enabled: Other users can see your email
  • Disabled: Email is private (recommended)

Show Phone Publicly

  • Enabled: Phone number visible to all users
  • Disabled: Phone number is private (recommended for safety)

Recommendation: Keep contact information private. Renters can contact you through the app’s messaging system.

8. Save Your Changes

  1. Review all information
  2. Tap “Save” or “Update Profile”
  3. Changes are saved immediately
  4. You’ll see a confirmation message

Updating Your Profile

You can update your profile anytime:

  1. Go to Profile > Edit Profile
  2. Make your changes
  3. Save updates

Note: Changing your handle may affect existing referral links, so choose carefully.

  • How to Get: Earned through positive reviews, completed bookings, and platform engagement
